The Story of Love

Love And Dreams
A woman came out of her house and saw three old men with long white beards sitting in her front yard. She did not recognize them. She said, “I don’t think I know you, but you must be hungry. Please come in and have something to eat.”

“Is the man of the house home?” they asked.

“No”, she said. “He’s out.”

“Then we cannot come in”, they replied.

In the evening when her husband came home, she told him what had happened. “Go tell them I am home and invite them in,” he said.

The woman went out and invited the men in. “We do not go into a house together,” they replied.

“Why is that?” she wanted to know.

One of the old men explained: “His name is Wealth,” he said pointing to one of his friends, and said pointing to another one, “He is Success, and I am Love.” Then he added, “Now go in and discuss with your husband which one of us you want in your home.”

The woman went in and told her husband what was said. Her husband was overjoyed. “How nice!” he said. “Since that is the case, let us invite Wealth. Let him come and fill our home with wealth!”

His wife disagreed. “My dear, why don’t we invite Success?”

Their daughter-in-law who was listening from the other corner of the house, jumped in with her own suggestion: “Would it not be better to invite Love? Our home will then be filled with love!”

“Let us heed our daughter-in-law’s advice,” said the husband to his wife. “Go out and invite Love to be our guest.”

The woman went out and asked the three old men, “Which one of you is Love? Please come in and be our guest.” Love got up and started walking toward the house. The other two also got up and followed him.

Surprised, the lady asked Wealth and Success: “I only invited Love, why are you coming in?”

The old men replied together: “If you had invited Wealth or Success, the other two of us would’ve stayed out, but since you invited Love, wherever He goes, we go with him. Wherever there is Love, there is also Wealth and Success!”

The Man By The Window

Step into a Dream

Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room. One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to help drain the fluid from his lungs. His bed was next to the room's only window. The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back.

The men talked for hours on end. They spoke of their wives and families, their homes, their jobs, their involvement in the military service, where they had traveled to. And every afternoon when the man in the bed by the window could sit up, he would pass the time by describing to his roommate all the things he could see outside the window.

The man in the other bed began to live for those one-hour periods where his world would be broadened and enlivened by all the activity and colour of the world outside. The window overlooked a park with a lovely lake.

Ducks and swans played on the water while children sailed their model boats. Young lovers walked arm in arm amidst flowers of every color of the rainbow. Grand old trees graced the landscape, and a fine view of the city skyline could be seen in the distance.

As the man by the window described all this in exquisite detail, the man on the other side of the room would close his eyes and imagine the picturesque scene. One warm afternoon the man by the window described a parade passing by. Although the other man couldn't hear the band ­ he could see it in his mind's eye as the gentleman by the window portrayed it with descriptive words.

Days and weeks passed.

One morning, the day nurse arrived to bring water for their baths only to find the lifeless body of the man by the window, who had died peacefully in his sleep. She was saddened and called the hospital attendants to take the body away.

As soon as it seemed appropriate, the other man asked if he could be moved next to the window. The nurse was happy to make the switch and after making sure he was comfortable, she left him alone.

Slowly, painfully, he propped himself up on one elbow to take his first look at the world outside. Finally, he would have the joy of seeing it for himself. He strained to slowly turn to look out the window beside the bed. It faced a blank wall.

The man asked the nurse what could have compelled his deceased roommate who had described such wonderful things outside this window. The nurse responded that the man was blind and could not even see the wall. She said that perhaps he just wanted to encourage you.

There is tremendous happiness in encouraging others and giving them hopes despite our own situations. Shared grief is half the sorrow, but happiness when shared, is doubled.

Yesterday I cooked fried bee hoon for dinner. Though the portion was a bit too much for the two of us, we managed to finish it all, in fact he finished them up after I "surrendered".

Seeing how much he enjoyed my cooking made me forgot that I still have not finished my chores, I still have the washing and cleaning up to do. But at that moment, his compliments made all my efforts worthwhile and made me smile as I did the washing... this simple joy was all it need to make my day (^-^)

I Believe I Can Fly

The result was out - Barack Obama has won the presidential election and became the first African American to be elected as President of United States!

This sets me thinking that if he hasn't believe in himself, hasn't believe that he could do it, his supporters wouldn't have believed in him and he wouldn't have made history!

For the first time, I did a google search on him, and went to his blog where I found these inspiring words on the header of his blog:

Let's not forget there are people who need our help

I consider myself a very fortunate person. Being born and bred in Singapore, I've had tertiary education which helps in finding an occupation which provides a decent, comfortable living.

We are very fortunate that we do not face the threat of natural disaster like flood, typhoon or earthquake in Singapore. However I often hear people complaining about their job, no interesting place to go on weekends, prices of public transport went up again etc.

Little did we still remember somewhere out there, there are people who do not have the basic necessity to survive and are dying of hunger, there are many children who are not fortunate to have education...

I've added a new element called "Let's Make A Difference" just above my latest post where clicking on it will bring you to www.freerice.com At this website, all you need to do is to "play" or rather it is a test on your vocabulary. Each correct answer you get, 20 grains of rice will be donated through the UN World Food Program to help end hunger.

There are also "tests" on Arts, Chemistry, Geography, Math subjects etc. The more you "play", the more right answers you will get, and the more rice will be donated to the needy.

Do visit the World Food Programme website to read more or make a donation to help fight hunger.

Don't forget... just as when we grumble about eating the same food all the time, someone on the other side of the world is dying without food...

Many years ago in a small village, there was a farmer who owed a large sum of money to a village money lender.

The moneylender, who was old and ugly, fancied the farmer’s beautiful daughter. So he proposed a bargain.

He said he would forgo the farmer’s debt if he could marry his daughter. Both the farmer and his daughter were horrified by the proposal.So the cunning money-lender suggested that they let Providence decide the matter.

He told them that he would put a black pebble and a white pebble into an empty money bag. Then the girl would have to pick one pebble from the bag.

1) If she picked the black pebble, she would become his wife and her father’s debt would be forgiven.

2) If she picked the white pebble she need not marry him and her father’s debt would still be forgiven.

3) But if she refused to pick a pebble, her father would be thrown into the jail.

They were standing on a pebble strewn path in the farmer’s field. As they were talking, the moneylender bent over to pick up two pebbles. As he picked them up, the sharp-eyed girl noticed that he had picked up two black pebbles and put them into the bag.

He then asked the girl to pick a pebble from the bag.

Now, imagine that you were standing in the field, what would you do if you were the girl? If you had to advise her, what would you have told her?

Careful analysis would produce three possibilities:

1. The girl should refuse to take a pebble.

2. The girl should show that there were two black pebbles in the bag and expose the money-lender as a cheat.

3. The girl should pick a black pebble and sacrifice herself in order to save her father from his debt and imprisonment.

Well, here is what she did ….

The girl put her hand into the moneybag and drew out a pebble. Without looking at it, she fumbled and let it fall onto the pebble-strewn path where it immediately became lost among all the other pebbles.

“Oh, how clumsy of me,” she said. “But never mind, if you look into the bag for the other one that is left, you will be able to tell which pebble I picked.”

Since the remaining pebble is black, it must be assumed that she had picked the white one. And since the money-lender dared not admit his dishonesty, the girl changed what seemed an impossible situation into an extremely advantageous one.

Moral of the story:
In life, we are bound to face problems and obstacles, believe that you can overcome any difficulty which is there to test on your determination to succeed, believe in yourself that you can find the solutions. Be positive and don't give up so easily.

Making Bo Bo Cha Cha Dessert - the Easy Way

Two weeks ago when we were doing our weekly grocery shopping, I saw this conveniently packed & vacuum sealed sweet potato and taro, these are the main ingredients for making bo bo cha cha. As I have never tried making it at home and now that there's this less hassle and convenient solution, I decided to try it out following the cooking instructions provided on the back of the packing.


The next important ingredient for bo bo cha cha is the crystal cubes, this is something I will first look for in my dessert bowl when I have this outside :P I bought both ingredients from a big supermarket.


Pandan leaves are included in the pack of sweet potatoes and taros, as it was after one week plus that I made this dessert, I decided to use my own pandan leaves instead. The other ingredients that are required in this dessert are cane sugar and coconut milk.



As there are only the two of us, I've decided to split the portion into two and cook the rest end of the week, and this has proved to be a right decision =)
