Pass It On

With Christmas just round the corner and Chinese New Year not too far away, you may be thinking of buying new furniture or replacing some electrical appliances in your home. While you may be thinking of simply disposing your old furniture/electrical items (still in good working condition) or selling them to garang guni (rag-and-bone man), there is another option you can consider which is passing it on to someone who needs it.

There's no better time to Pass It On than the season of giving and sharing.

The Simple Joy in Life

Know Joy
Know Joy

Yesterday I cooked fried bee hoon for dinner. Though the portion was a bit too much for the two of us, we managed to finish it all, in fact he finished them up after I "surrendered".

Seeing how much he enjoyed my cooking made me forgot that I still have not finished my chores, I still have the washing and cleaning up to do. But at that moment, his compliments made all my efforts worthwhile and made me smile as I did the washing... this simple joy was all it need to make my day (^-^)

May the moon softly restore you by night.

The Power Of Perspective

Sleepy Hollow Farm, Woodstock, VT by Charles Benes
Sleepy Hollow Farm, Woodstock, VT

One day, a rich father took his young son on a trip to the country with the firm purpose to show him how poor people can be. They spent a day and a night in the farm of a very poor family. When they got back from their trip the father asked his son, "How was the trip?"

Very good, Dad!"

"Did you see how poor people can be?" the father asked.

"Yeah!"

"And what did you learn?" the father asked again.

The son answered, "I saw that we have a dog at home, and they have four.

We have a pool that reaches to the middle of the garden, but they have a creek that has no end.

We have imported lamps in the garden, while they have the stars.

Our patio reaches to the front yard, yet they have a whole horizon."

When the little boy was finishing, his father was speechless.

His son added, "Thanks, Dad, for showing me how poor we are!"

Moral of the story:
Isn't it true that it all depends on the way you look at things? If you have love, friends, family, health, good humour and a positive attitude towards life, you've got everything! Because you can't buy any of these things.

You can have all the material possessions you can imagine, provisions for the future, etc., but if you are poor of spirit, you have nothing!

Garfield's Words of Wisdom

"We all get heavier as we get older because
there's a lot more information on our heads.
So, I'm not fat. I'm just really intelligent and
my head couldn't hold anymore so
it started filling up the rest of me."

Letting it go

The Dentist by Linda Braucht
The Dentist

Letting go is like getting a tooth pulled out from a dentist.
Pull it out and you are relieved.
But how many times does your tongue run itself over the spot where the tooth once was?
Probably a hundred times a day.
Just because it wasn't hurting doesn't mean you don't notice it.
It leaves a gap and sometimes you see yourself missing it terribly.
It's going to take a while, but it takes time.
Should you have kept the tooth?
No, because it was causing you so much pain.
So, let it go!

Change
Change

"Life is a progress, and not a station."
- Ralph Waldo Emerson

"Life is meant for living... I know that sounds simplistic, but how many days do you let slip by without really doing something, accomplishing something, making a life change, a lifestyle change? "
- Ivana Trump

"I cannot say whether things will get better if we change; what I can say is they must change if they are to get better."

"Continuity gives us roots; change gives us branches, letting us stretch and grow and reach new heights."
- Pauline R. Kezer

"If we don't change, we don't grow. If we don't grow, we aren't really living."
- Gail Sheehy

"There are ... two kinds of people: those who are changing and
those who are setting themselves up to be victims of change.
As the world continues to march on around us, if I am only maintaining the status quo - if I'm not growing - then I'm falling behind."

- Jim Clemmer

"Without change there is no innovation, creativity, or incentive for improvement. Those who initiate change will have a better opportunity to manage the change that is inevitable."

"It takes a lot of courage to release the familiar and seemingly secure, to embrace the new. But there is no real security in what is no longer meaningful. There is more security in the adventurous and exciting, for in movement there is life, and in change there is power."

Inspirational Quotes from Barack Obama

Barack Obama: Change
Barack Obama: Change

"Change will not come if we wait for some other person or
some other time.
We are the ones we’ve been waiting for.
We are the change that we seek."

"In my heart I know you didn’t come here just for me,
you came here because you believe in what this country can be.
In the face of war, you believe there can be peace.
In the face of despair, you believe there can be hope.
In the face of a politics that’s shut you out,
that’s told you to settle, that’s divided us for too long,
you believe we can be one people, reaching for what’s possible,
building that more perfect union."

"Whenever I write a letter to a family who has lost a loved one in Iraq, or read an email from a constituent who has dropped out of college because her student aid has been cut, I’m reminded that the actions of those in power have enormous consequences–a price that they themselves almost never have to pay."

"We need to steer clear of this poverty of ambition, where people want to drive fancy cars and wear nice clothes and live in nice apartments but don’t want to work hard to accomplish these things. Everyone should try to realize their full potential."

"Because nothing worthwhile in this country has ever happened unless somebody, somewhere stood up when it was hard;
stood up when they were told – no you can’t,
and said yes we can."

Friends are like street lights along the road.

make the walk worthwhile.

Quotes on Habits

Be On Time
Be On Time

"There are two types of habits: ones which comfort us, and ones which would be a comfort if we stopped."
- Catherine Pulsifer

"Habits ... the only reason they persist is that they are offering some satisfaction... You allow them to persist by not seeking any other, better form of satisfying the same needs. Every habit, good or bad, is acquired and learned in the same way - by finding that it is a means of satisfaction."
- Juliene Berk

"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit."
- Aristotle

"The second half of a man's life is made up of nothing but the habits he has acquired during the first half."
- Feodor Dostoevski

"The chains of habit are too weak to be felt until they are too strong to be broken."
- Samuel Johnson

"If you keep on doing what you've always done, you'll keep on getting what you've always got. "

The Power Of Habit

Feeling Fit Motivational by Mather
Feeling Fit Motivational

I am your constant companion.
I am your greatest helper or your heaviest burden.

I will push you onward or drag you down to failure.

I am completely at your command.

Half the things you do, you might just as well turn over to me,
and I will be able to do them quickly and correctly.

I am easily managed; you must merely be firm with me.

Show me exactly how you want something done,
and after a few lessons I will do it automatically.

I am the servant of all great men.

And, alas, of all failures as well.

Those who are great, I have made great.

I am not a machine, though I work with all the precision of a machine.

Plus, the intelligence of man.

You may run me for profit, or run me for ruin;

it makes no difference to me.

Take me, train me, be firm with me and
I will put the world at your feet.

Be easy with me, and I will destroy you.

Who am I?

I am your Habit.

Decide to Be Happy

Just for today, decide to be happy.
To love what's yours.

If you can't have what you want,

maybe you can like what you have.

Just for today, decide to be kind,

Be cheerful,

Be agreeable,
Be understanding
,
Be your best.

Dress your best.

Talk softly.

Look at the brighter side of things.

Appreciate people instead of criticizing them.

Just for today, try it.

After all, it's just for a day.

And who knows?

You might like it and do it again tomorrow!

Believe in Yourself

Believe In Yourself
Believe In Yourself

Believe in Yourself
And in your dream though impossible things may seem Someday,
somehow you'll get through to the goal you have in view.

Mountains fall and seas divide
before the one who in his stride takes a hard road day by day,
sweeping obstacles away.

BELIEVE I YOURSELF and in your plan.
Say not - I cannot -
but, I CAN.
The prizes of life we fail to WIN
Because we doubt the power within.

I Believe I Can Fly

The result was out - Barack Obama has won the presidential election and became the first African American to be elected as President of United States!

This sets me thinking that if he hasn't believe in himself, hasn't believe that he could do it, his supporters wouldn't have believed in him and he wouldn't have made history!

For the first time, I did a google search on him, and went to his blog where I found these inspiring words on the header of his blog:
"I'M ASKING YOU TO BELIEVE.
Not just in my ability to bring about real change in Washington ...
I'm asking you to believe in yours."

I just thought of a very nice song by R. Kelly which I will never forget... the lyrics goes like this...

I used to think that I could not go on
And life was nothing but an awful song
But now I know the meaning of true love
I'm leaning on the everlasting arms

If I can see it, then I can do it
If I just believe it, there's nothing to it

[1]
I believe I can fly
I believe I can touch the sky
I think about it every night and day
Spread my wings and fly away
I believe I can soar
I see me running through that open door
I believe I can fly
I believe I can fly
I believe I can fly

See I was on the verge of breaking down
Sometimes silence can seem so loud
There are miracles in life I must achieve
But first I know it starts inside of me, oh

If I can see it, then I can do it
If I just believe it, there's nothing to it

[Repeat 1]

Hey, cuz I believe in me, oh

If I can see it, then I can be it
If I just believe it, there's nothing to it

[Repeat 1]

Hey, if I just spread my wings
I can fly
I can fly
I can fly, hey
If I just spread my wings
I can fly
Fly-eye-eye

Quotes on Believing

Believe
Believe

"People often become what they believe themselves to be.
If I believe I cannot do something, it makes me incapable of doing it.
But when I believe I can, then I acquire the ability to do it even if I didn't have it in the beginning."
- Mohandas Gandhi

"So if you have a dream then just believe that you can achieve it no matter what. Even when you can't feel deep in your heart any words of encouragement, just believe in your dream and your heart will finally show you the way."
- Shuchi Gupta

"Don't limit yourself. Many people limit themselves to what they think they can do. You can go as far as your mind lets you. What you believe, remember, you can achieve."
- Mary Kay Ash

"For as long as I can remember, people said I would never be able to do anything. My parents and I believed I could, and we've been proving them wrong ever since."
- Rick Hoyt

"You are what you are by what you believe."

Life's Treasures

Love
Love

Life's richest treasures are not those things
that can be bought.
They are a cheerful smile, a friendly word
and a sympathetic nod.
These are the priceless things
that can't be bought with silver or gold.
For like thoughtfulness, kindness and love
they are never sold.
Those are the priceless things in life
which no one can pay.
And the giver finds rich recompense
in giving them away.
